Anchor Center

At Portside Baptist Church (PBC), we believe the local, ordinary church is the primary training ground for ministry. We desire to assist others in gaining clarity and understanding of ministry through growth in character, conviction, competence, calling, and an appreciation for a Word-centered church culture.

The Anchor Center is designed for advancing God’s kingdom through leadership and utilizing PBC for His kingdom. The center contains a Kingdom Advance space, the PBC Pastoral Ministry & Missions Cohort, and the PBC Internship.

PASTORAL RESIDENCY

A pastoral residency at PBC is a one to two-year opportunity allowing men prepare for being pastors in and through the local church. Here, residents will be mentored by PBC church leadership and gain insight into the the joys and difficulties of establishing a culture that is Word-centered and missionally engaged. Residents will gain collaborative ministry experience through serving, teaching, preaching, and leading local congregations within Park Circle, Greater Charleston, and beyond.

The residency is committed to shepherding and equipping the resident for future ministry opportunities by adequate training in developing the next generation of church leaders and missionaries in and through the local church.

Resident Expectations

  • Residents will serve in a part-time working status.

  • Residents are expected to be involved in PBC as both volunteers and leaders.

  • Residents will preach and teach at PBC at least once per month.

  • Residents will also attend weekly cohort meetings and monthly eldership meetings. The cohort meetings include discussion of insights weekly scripture reading and study, spiritual formation from leadership, and sharpening of teaching and communication skills. Eldership meetings provide time for prayer, study, and reflection on the Word, discussion of church revitalization, and general pastoral care concerns.

  • Residents will assist PBC leadership oversee and further develop the Anchor Center.

Resident Support

Residents will receive the resources required and residency meeting/training expenses.

ANCHOR INTERNSHIP

The internship at PBC is a one to four-year opportunity for college students to gain a broad understanding of ministry through the local church. Interns will be mentored by PBC church leadership and gain insight into the the joys and difficulties of establishing a culture that is Word-centered and missionally engaged. The internship is designed to mentor young men and women as they grow their understanding of what God is doing in their calling.

The church is committed to shepherding and equipping interns for future ministry opportunities or life as leaders in the church.

Internship Expectations

  • Interns are expected to be involved in PBC as both volunteers and leaders.

  • Interns will attend weekly discipleship meetings involving discussions insights from weekly scripture reading and study, spiritual formation from leadership learning, and the sharpening of teaching and communication skills.

  • Interns will assist as needed in the church.

  • Interns will gain collaborative experience through serving, teaching, preaching, and leading in the PBC Young Adult Ministry.

Application Process

Application Submission: The Intern applicant must submit an internship application for the Internship explaining their desire for pursuing the internship and share their testimony, ministry goals, affirm expectations for the internship, and understanding of their role as members of the local church.

Internship Interview: The Intern applicant will be interviewed by a pastor of the church to assess their application, identify calling and giftings, and discuss membership and internship expectations.


Covenant Signature: The Intern applicant will read the Anchor Internship Covenant which highlights the expectations of the internship and sign to affirm their ability to carry out the role of Intern.
