About Portside

Who We Are

We strive for simplicity! We seek to closely model after the early church in Acts 2 by making the plain things the main things. We devote ourselves to the preaching of the Word, fellowship, prayer, and making disciples of Jesus.

Our Values

Right Worship

We seek to honor God in how we worship and we worship the Lord in all aspects of our lives. We believe that worship is not exclusive to just singing in our worship service but also in our prayer and expositional preaching. We value the regulative principle and seek to bring God’s Word to bear in our worship service and service as worship.

Real Fellowship

We enjoy fellowship with one another as a part of the Christian life. We seek to live authentically through our times together, bearing one another’s burdens, sharing our lives and rejoicing with each other. As the Lord grows us as a church, we seek to be all the more real with one another through regular worship gatherings and throughout the week.

Rich Discipleship

We understand discipleship as a normal aspect of the Christian life. We desire to cultivate a discipleship culture where growth in Christ is expected and living in conformity and obedience to Christ is enjoyed. This starts with expositional preaching on Sundays, reading good books together, and meeting together around the Word.

Resolute Mission

We resolve to be on mission at all times. We want to see Charleston and the world captivated by Christ. We value living consistently with the mindset of sharing the Gospel and praying for the lost. We maintain this with our culture of discipleship, seeking to see the lost not only come to know and love Jesus but be faithful to His Church.

CORE BELIEFS

Portside’s core beliefs align with the Southern Baptist Convention’s Baptist Faith and Message.

Portside Baptist Church affirms the historic creeds of the Church established by the ecumenical councils. We affirm the Apostles, Nicene, and Chalcedonian Creeds as they articulate what we believe Scripture says about the Gospel, Trinity, and Person and Work of Christ.

Portside Baptist Church also affirms two distinctive Confessions of Faith: the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith and the 1833 New Hampshire Confession of Faith.
